About the Mandel Program for Regional Leadership in the Gaza Border Communities (2020–2022)
The Mandel Program for Regional Leadership in the Gaza Border Communities was designed to cultivate outstanding leaders who will work to significantly improve various areas of life for residents of the Western Negev. The program emphasized developing individual capabilities and enabling fellows to formulate a values-based worldview and to gain a fresh perspective on their region as individuals and as a community.
The program aimed specifically to promote initiatives that will improve the lives of residents of the Gaza border region, in light of the challenges that its communities face in general and in recent years in particular, as part of a desire to develop regional resilience that will improve quality of life in the Gaza border region and throughout the entire Negev. Like all the regional programs of the Mandel Center for Leadership in the Negev, it sought to create and strengthen shared spaces for the different communities of the Negev, while fostering partnerships, ideas, and practical solidarity.
The study program was based on four main categories: values, worldview, and identity; space and place; policy, government, and local government; and leadership and practice. The training process combined group study, individual tutoring, field trips, and intensive seminars. The program also included a practical component designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice and give participants hands-on experience in applying their ideas in the fields in which they operate.
